🌿 Leave No Trace

What is Leave No Trace?

Leave No Trace is a set of outdoor ethics that helps protect wild places by minimizing human impact.

It’s not about perfection.

It’s about awareness.

Every step, every fire, every choice leaves a mark—this is how we keep those marks as light as possible.

🌲 The 7 Principles of Leave No Trace

1. Plan Ahead and Prepare

Know the rules, terrain, and conditions before you go.

Preparation prevents damage—and bad decisions.

2. Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces

Stick to trails, rock, gravel, or established campsites.

Avoid trampling fragile vegetation.

3. Dispose of Waste Properly

Pack it in, pack it out.

That includes trash, food scraps, and yes… human waste.

4. Leave What You Find

Don’t take rocks, plants, or artifacts.

Let others experience the place as you found it.

5. Minimize Campfire Impact

Use a stove when possible.

If fires are allowed, keep them small and controlled.

6. Respect Wildlife

Observe from a distance.

Do not feed animals—ever.

7. Be Considerate of Others

Keep noise low.

Respect the experience others came for.

🧭 Why It Matters

Wild places don’t heal quickly.

One careless campsite can last for years.

One shortcut can become a permanent scar.

Leave No Trace ensures:

👉 Trails stay wild

👉 Wildlife stays safe

👉 Future explorers get the same experience you did

🚙 Tread Lightly!

What is Tread Lightly?

Tread Lightly! focuses on responsible use of motorized and mechanized recreation—like off-roading, OHVs, and overlanding.

It’s about enjoying access without damaging the land that makes it possible.

🛞 The 5 Principles of Tread Lightly

T — Travel Responsibly

Stay on designated roads and trails.

Avoid sensitive areas like wetlands and meadows.

R — Respect the Rights of Others

Share the trail.

Be courteous to hikers, bikers, and other users.

E — Educate Yourself

Know the rules, closures, and land designations before you go.

A — Avoid Sensitive Areas

Stay away from muddy trails, wildlife habitats, and cultural sites.

D — Do Your Part

Pick up trash (even if it’s not yours).

Help maintain trails and report damage when needed.

🧭 Why It Matters

One vehicle can do what hundreds of boots cannot.

Tracks can:

  • Cause erosion

  • Damage habitats

  • Close access for everyone

Tread Lightly ensures:

👉 Roads stay open

👉 Access stays legal

👉 The land stays intact

🌲 The Code of the Trail

Out here, there are no walls, no gates, no guards.

Just trust.

Trust that the people who came before you cared enough not to ruin it.

Trust that you will do the same for those who come after.

🏜️Take only memories. Leave only footsteps. Travel like you were never there.
